  • Please help!!!

Hi I am filing for my AOS being a F1 student in the US and married to a US citizen. Problem is that my parents last name is different than mine. So in all the forms asking my parents information, should I put my parents last name or use the one that they have in my passport?
    Any help appreciated, Thank you!!

Provided there is no conflict between your birth certificate which should state both your parents surname and your passport use their surnames as stated.

My passport and birth certificate has no conflict but their real surname is different than what stated in my passport and birth certificate. Should I just use the one stated in my documents or should I use their real last name? thank you for your help..

My last name is different from my parent's last name. I did not have a Birth certificate so i took 3 affidavits from my father, mother and older sister. I am a US Citizen now. Never had any issue. My passport had the last name of my parents which is different from my own last name.

It is very common in India to have a different last name than your parents. The reason being that last names are indicative of your caste and is sometimes used to filter out resumes while/during job resumes. I know it sounds bad but that is how things are or at-least used to be 30 years ago.
