Hi all,
This forum has been very helpful when I was going through my process so I would like to share my story.
We are a same sex couple, my husband is a U.S. citizen who filed for me.
We sent the initial forms on May 17, 2016.
My Work Permit arrived on September 27, 2016 and the letter about the interview on February 1st, 2017. The interview took place on March 8, 2017 in the NYC field office (Manhattan).
Our officer was a very nice lady and the interview was very casual. She asked my husband about my age, if he knows my family, and how we met. Then she asked me about his age, if I know his family and what visa I came to USA on upon my last entry. Then she asked the same YES/NO questions from the I-485. Looked at our photos but didn't ask any questions about them. Then she said we are done and should get the decision within 120 days by mail. The whole interview took no more than 15mins. We didn't have a lawyer nor interpreter. I was very stressed out before the interview and now I'm worried that it went to easy. However I've heard that NYC field office has good reviews and opinion. The neighbor office in Newark NJ - I've been hearing horror stories about them. I work as an immigration paralegal so I hear something new all the time from my clients. I personally recommend to file in NY, not NJ.
Good luck all
