Form I-864 sponsor

I'm on a student visa completing my opt (Expires 08/09) and my husband is my petitioner. I have a question about the sponsor, I've been reading that people get a joint-sponsor when the petitioners income is not enough, my question is...can another person that makes enough money be the only sponsor? or does the petitioner have to be a sponsor too?

The petitioner has to be the sponsor. And the person who has enough income is going to be the joint sponsor
