  • I-693 question

My wife and I are in the process of getting her green card. We've had the interview already and about a month ago we received a request for more information. On that request it says to provide I-693 Medical Certification by a Civil Surgeon. I'm wondering if anyone knows what that is. We had the medical exam done already with a civil surgeon and we brought that sealed envelope with us to our interview. Does this mean that our interviewer somehow lost that envelope and we now have to have another medical exam done? I really hope not as it put us out about $450 dollars the first time we did. I've tried to call USCIS to ask them about that but the number doesn't really lead to talking to an actual person and I tried to set up an appointment at a local USCIS location and they don't have any appointments. Has anyone else experienced this? It's really frustrating at times to deal with all the paperwork and the hoops it seems they make you jump through just to get simple answers and whatnot.

Bazz, there is an expiration date tied in with Form 693.
If you submitted or came with a 693 over a year old you have to resubmit for another exam.
If not simply go to your doctor and ask him to give you a copy.

i had a very similar experience, hope this helps. I submitted my I693 with my application, at my interview the officer told me i would receive a request for evidence in the mail (aka RFE) because the medical exam i got didn't include the new mandatory gonorrhea exam. So i went back to the same place and they did the gonorrhea exam for an extra 30 dollars and gave me a new sealed envelope. So this is my suggestion to you. Read the notice carefully, is it missing anything? Did she have the required gonorrhea test? Are you using the lates form? all the forms were just updated about two months ago and if you submit them after a certain time they wont accept the earlier form. The exams expire after a year, so go back to the civil surgeon that did the exam and tell them immigration sent you an rfe because there was a problem with your other exam. They should do it at no extra cost. But do your research first. make sure they are using the latest form
