Travel outside US when I485 is applied

Hi,

My employer is filing EB1 for me with concurrent I140 and I485 filing. This summer my family is going to our home country to give our kids few yr's of home country experience and education. They will have valid L2 visas. What all processes they need to complete before leaving US? What happens when I485 get approved when they are abroad?
