  • Update - Change of Status - Oklahoma

    Hey guys!

First, I want to thank everyone who actively participates on this forum for all your help. It made a real difference in this process!

My husband (US citizen) and I got married (same-sex marriage) last July and I just received confirmation that my change of status from F1 to Permanent Resident has been granted.
Here is my timeline. FYI: our local field office is Oklahoma City.

    09/21 Sent I-485, I-765, I-130
    09/23 USPS delivery notification
    09/26 Priority Date
    10/03 Email notification
    10/11 Notices received by mail
    10/15 Letter for Biometrics Appointment
    10/24 Biometrics Appointment

    --- long wait ---

    12/23 I-765 Approved
    12/28 EAD card mailed

    --- long wait ---

    04/20 Interview
    04/27 Change of status approved
Now waiting for the physical green card!

The interview lasted only 15 or 20 minutes. Clearly the immigration officer had made her decision before we entered the room. I did have to go back to conduct one extra medical test and mail these results back to her before she could give her final approval.

If you are in the middle of this process: be thorough in your filling and be patient.

Finally, I would like to point out that we elected not to hire an immigration attorney as our case was somewhat simple. I had always maintained legal status in the United States and everything seems to be just fine on paper. That was a stressful decision but ultimately it worked out since we were able to save a good chunk of money. However, it may not be wise if your file presents challenges.

I am sooooo happy this process is coming to an end!!!

    Good luck to everyone!

    First, congratulations!!
Our timeline is so similar but mine is in Texas. Mine PD is 9/27/16, biometrics on 10/21, EAD on 12/26 but I haven't even got a notice for interview yet so no interview for me thank you for posting, i feel a bit more optimistic now but the wait still kills me. Congrats once again!

      Hi Minahqq!
Thanks for the kind words. I read on this forum that Texas has a longer wait time than Oklahoma but don't lose faith. You will be notified. In fact, we only received our interview notice about four weeks before the actual interview. So things may move quickly once you get your appointment. Keep us posted!
