How long after i-130 is approved?

Hi everyone,

I'm about to embark on this big journey towards GC.

Question: how long do they give you to file i-485 if you first submitted only i-130 and assuming i-130 is approved? I heard you have 90 days to file i-485. Is that correct? Also, we're in the process of getting my name on the lease and fixing my partner's tax issues (so, only sending i-130 now), So is it going to be a huge problem if I send i-130 now without lease and bring to the interview instead?

What category are you? Are you the spouse of a US citizen? If so, just wait until you guys are ready to file both I-130 and I-485. There is no benefit to filing I-130 first.

I'm the spouse of a US citizen, but we're not ready to file concurrently (tax problems), so we'll file I-130 and I-130a first to give us time. I also need sldocs to prove an immigration app is pending.

Then you should wait until you're ready and file both I-130 and I-485 at that time. It's only filing I-485 that protects you against deportation. Filing I-130 earlier doesn't give you any benefits.
