I would hope everyone is doing okay. Just a reminder, the pandemic is still raging and you should protect your own respiratory health by getting vaccinated and wearing a medical grade mask.

Anyways, I am happy to report that I applied for US Citizenship in July 2021, and on November 19, 2021, my interview for US Naturalization will be on December 18, 2021 at 10: 40 am ET. I was granted ASYLUM in 2017, PERMANENT RESIDENCY approves in October 08, 2019 and back dated one year to October 08, 2018. I will definitely update you all once the process has been completed, I am coming to the end of my immigration journey.

UPDATE ON TRAVEL WITH A US REFUGEE TRAVEL DOCUMENT, FORM I-571

As a result of the pandemic, I didn't travel anywhere, however, I traveled to Cancun, Mexico and Punta Cuna, Dominican Republic for vacation using my US Refugee Travel Document, Form I-571.

However, do want to point out you do not need RTD to travel if you had your passport and you had received your green card.

Also, just for clarifications, you seem to be applying for naturalization through marriage to USC, right? Otherwise you do not seem to be eligible for filling for citizenship until 07 / 10 / 2023.

Does anyone know how to get a 4-year Real ID driver's license in Ohio as an asylee? They checked the unexpired passport, ssn, address, approve letter and i94 today, but was only able to issue a standard driver's license, not Real ID.

Most of people at the DMV don't know that as an asylee/re you are entitle to get a real ID without any restrictions on it, don't let them give you a limited term either. you need to talk to a supervisor and show them your asylee letter and your asylum i-94 or a printed i-94 from your last entry.

(B) EVIDENCE OF LAWFUL STATUS- A State shall require, before issuing a driver's license or identification card to a person, valid documentary evidence that the person--

(ii) is an alien lawfully admitted for permanent or temporary residence in the United States;
(iii) has conditional permanent resident status in the United States;
(iv) has an approved application for asylum in the United States or has entered into the United States in refugee status;
(v) has a valid, unexpired nonimmigrant visa or nonimmigrant visa status for entry into the United States;
(vi) has a pending application for asylum in the United States;
(vii) has a pending or approved application for temporary protected status in the United States;
(viii) has approved deferred action status; or (ix) has a pending application for adjustment of status to that of an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States or conditional permanent resident status in the United States

Aliens lawfully admitted for permanent or temporary residence, aliens with conditional permanent resident status, aliens with an approved application for asylum, and aliens who have entered the United States as refugees are eligible for a full-term REAL ID license or identification card.

Print those documents and bring them with you talk to a supervisor and refuse to leave unless you get it .

I thought we have to wait 5 years( or 3 months before 5 years) in order to apply for citizenship, If I am counting date correctly from 2018 till 2021- it's just 3 or 4 years depending up on the month... can you please provide some insight on this?

We can get RealID in OH only if we have either Green Card or US Citizenship but not for Asylee .

Asylees should get Real ID even without green card in any of the 50 states. If they refuse, ask to speak with the supervisor, show the document sent by GM1985 and insist. Most of those DMVs are misinformed, they think there are only two immigration status available like either you are an US citizen/GC or visa holder and have no clue that there are other categories between. Just insist!

First of all, the issuing policies of state DMV/MVC/BMV or whatever name they had for the agency, is governed by the state law, not the federal law.

The federal law, REAL ID Act in this case, only specifies the "minimal" requirements, and the state have full authority under the constitution to require more documents and shorter validity period, than the federal law.

the state is under no obligation whatsoever to issue full term REAL ID to asylee, nor is your "document" carries any force to the local agency employee, because again, they are to follow local agency policies and state laws.

That being said, as part of the federal requirements, your document is not sufficient. You will need to present your EAD.

Once you get the right documents, they should issue you a real ID, though the validity period will vary depends on state laws.

Lastly, there is little use of Real ID, in my opinion, just use your passport if you need so.

And honestly, the Real ID implementation, in my opinion, is a total failure. Total, complete failure on all levels. The truth is, many if not a vast majority of states do not even verify the documents presented, other than those verifiable through SAVE. For example, birth certificate, US passport and US visas mot are not verified with issuer, this is direct violation of the Real ID Act itself, and created a large loophole for frauds.

A side note, if you have a question, please ask the question. Simply asking if someone went through the same process will not help.

That said, you can file I90, and select 2.d. as the basis of filling. You need to attach your old card, an explanation of the error, and your derivative asylum approval I94.

You do not need to pay a filling fee and you will need to mail the application, instead of filling online (because you need to send in your card).

Also please do make a copy of your green card before submit it.
