    Hi guys,

So I had my AOS interview done yesterday 5/16/17. It really didn't go as I thought it would. I filed non concurrent. Im adjusting through marriage. Here is my story that will help y'all understand how my interview went and why it went the way it went I suppose.

I entered without inspection back in 1994 when I was 4 yrs old. Back in 1995ish my aunt filed an I-130 for my mom. Under that petition my sisters and I are in it. That I-130 got approved. I don't know the detail as to why we didn't proceed after that approval. But I had the TPS (temporary protection status) for as long as I remember and that is why I have been able to have a job, social security and drivers license.

Fast forward, to 5 years ago when my husband petitioned for me. We went to a lawyer bc when I was little my mom remembers that an officer got me when I was coming to the US but nothing came of it. Well my lawyer found that there was a deportation petition for me from like YEARS ago! So we filed the I-130 fist. That petition got approved back in 2014. For the men's time from then to last year tried to open and close the deportation case through the administration side of immigration. That request was granted and last year in April. Immediately we we went ahead and moved forward with the I-485. We waited a bit over a year to finally get our interview, yesterday.

    So yesterday:
Appointment was at 8:45 am at the Houston office by Greenspoint. We weren't called in til 9:50am. So make sure you had a good and heavy breakfast. So we got called in, my attorney had mentioned that asides from the copies and originals i had in a nicely well labeled binde he said to make just a packed that is binder clipped in the following order due to that out of all the immigration officers there, there is one who says give me whatever you got. So with that in mind he said put on top 1)8 pictures of us, us and family, friends and what not 2) put our house title, or any property we have jointly 3)joint filed income tax from 2014-2016 and work pays this for 3 months 4)joint bank statements 5) any joint statements (car insurance, health insurance, etc). Well, when we get called in long and behold who would have guessed he odds, we got that one guy our attorney told us about. He was friendly, we swore us in, we gave him our Drivers License. He flipped through my file and asked me who put my file together. At first I didn't understand but he was meaning who filed my applications. I mentioned that the first I-130 was my aunt but then from the current ones i used a lawyer. He said that he would need to take time to understand my file. But then said I see you have stuff so give me whatever you want. I have him that packet I had prepped for him and gave him my new medical (the new form). The dr that I used that was referred to me by my layer did a half assed job on filling in my stuff bc he didn't fill in the dates of all my vaccinations. Thankfully he did include the copy I provided him of all up to date vaccinations. So the officer moved on. Asked me what my social was and asked what my phone number was. Then he asked me 5-8 questions like if I had ever been arrested or took part of an organization, had I ever worked for a prison. I said no to all of them as it is the truth. By this time he hadn't asked my husband anything. He asked if we had children, we said no. He asked me what I did for a living and then he asked my husband. He asked how we met. When he looked at the packet I gave him he made the comment that we gave him more then what he needed but it was okay. However he was still confused about my file history. So he didn't question my marriage just my file and how my petitions were made. So because of that reason he printed out a letter stating that he needs to review it more before making a final decision.

I was really upset because I really thought we would get approved. I mean come on my I-130 was approved and my deportation case had been dismissed. So now here I am trying to stay positive and hoping he understands my file bc after all he is the expert!

I don't meant to discourage any of my fellow Houston filers that have an interview coming up but just be prepared.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what may happen please share with me your thoughts. I will truly appreciate it.

Thank you all and sorry that it was a long post.

    Best wishes

Thanks for the advice I hope they don't take forever approving your case, waiting for the interview was long enough already. I was nervous about the order of our binder because I know where everything is but I'm not sure if the officer will be able to navigate through it, but now I will label the different areas in binder for easier navigation. We have our interview on Monday, I'm hoping everything goes smoothly for us. Again thanks for the update!

      Just a question:

Did you have a lawyer with you?
My lawyer won't come to the interview so I'm wondering...

      Thanks

        Tddias,

I opted to not have the attorney go with me. I didn't use them either when we did our I-130 interview either as they would have charged me $400-500+ to go with me. For the I-130 all the documents I brought was suffice and the officer approved that petition and that lasted only 15 min so imagine getting paid $400 per 15 min is crazy! Asides from the money portion on why I didn't have them go with me is because I think I'm pretty well educated on my case. Honestly if they had gone with me to the final I-485 interview I really don't think it would have made a difference on what the decision of the officer was. I was able to answer all the questions he had about me and my file history. But he still kept saying he still needed to review it even if it made sense what I was telling him. I guess he wanted to be safer then sorry. I just hope he is able to touch my file soon again and understand it and approve me. I think the fact that I waived not having my lawyer with me at that interview says a lot that I don't have anything to hide. Oh and this interview lasted 20 min tops.

Oh also, i think of you have all the documentation that they have listed on the interview notice and also have copies for them to keep you should be good without the lawyer or attorney. Some people have them go with them because they may have issues speaking English fluently or because they may have had a past arrest or crime history. If you don't have any of the above then I think you should be okay. Just know your spouses information like date of birth, where they were born, have pictures of you both together, proof of a bonified marriage. Also have your spouse know your date of birth, your parents name, basic stuff about you that they should already know. I hope this information is helpful to you. If you still want the lawyer to go with you ask her/him if they have someone else that They can recommend that can go with you to represent them. And also ask them how much it is for them to go with you.

          I wish you the best.

            UPDATE:

I checked my case this afternoon and my case changed to "NEW CARD BEING PRODUCED"!!!! This morning I checked and it didn't say anything on being approved just "name updated on May 16, 2017". But I'll take this as new update as an approval! YAY!

So from the interview to the approval it took 15 days for the officer to approve it! YAY. I'm so happy and don't have to worry about my work permit expiring soon.

            Best wishes to you all!
