  • Houston Interview Experience

We had our interview today at 12 at the Houston, TX field office. We arrived there pretty early around 10:45 due to bad weather we didn’t want to be late. We went into the building around 11:25 passed through security, then turned in our interview notice to the people at the front desk, and we waited for our name to be called. They called us to the back around 12:20. They guy who interviewed us was nice he let us know at the beginning of the interview that he would try to be as fast as possible. He asked us standard questions such as date of birth, how my husband and I met, if we’ve ever been arrested, our address, when we got married, why we waited so long to file for adjustment since we married in 2012 and how long we dated before getting married. He asked for the updated medical papers, our joint documents, our ID’s, my husband’s passport and photos of our family. He left the room for about 10 minutes and he spent majority of the time on his computer I’m assuming he was submitting information. At end of our interview he told us that he approved our I-130 and for our I-485 we would have to wait to be approved by his supervisor and the supervisor wouldn’t be back to the office until Wednesday. He said we should have a response from them in 30 days. We got out of our interview at 1.

Wow, very helpful. Thank you! I hope I can get my EAD before January 2018 since my current one from DACA is expiring then. I am hoping to send everything this week or next week.

    My case:

B2 in 2001, never left, went to school, met my now husband in college, married April 2017.

We live together, have a joint account, joint credit cards, cell phone bill, and the rest will come along the way, hopefully before the interview but I am hoping other than these and photos and marriage certificate that it will be enough to be approved and receive no RFEs. We live in IL.

    Congratulations on getting this far!

Thank you! My case just updated online today for our I-130 and I-485 stating that the interview was completed and must be reviewed. Hopefully it doesn't take long for them to review the case. Good Luck to you on your case hopefully it's a lot faster for you, I know the wait is too long.

          Hi,
This is super helpful. We also have our interview at Houston in a couple of days, in my case its my wife who is sponsoring me.

          * This review by supervisor thing is interesting, you folks do seem like were very nicely prepared so good work there.
          * Did they ask for birth certificate?
          * You mentioned he asked for your ID's , which one?
          * Also in joint document what did you give him?
          * How did you took your docs in, a stack for original and another for copies?
          * Did you leave submit anything else except the medical to him?

Pardon the zillion questions, just this whole process makes you so much nervous.

Also if you have any suggestions on this question do provide,
          Thanks so much.

No they didn't ask for a birth certificate
            Our Texas issued ID's
We gave him our joint tax returns, joint bank account, and our apartment rent receipts/contract.
We took everything in a binder and had it organized in clear pockets so he could see everything, we had copies of literally everything and we took originals as well. We also took a small photo album for him to look through.
He took our medical, he took copies our rent receipts, copies of our joint bank accounts, a copy of our joint tax returns, and he took copies of our family photos.

No problem I was really nervous prior to our interview because I was afraid we weren't going to prepared enough. Also he asked for copies of any utility bills with both of our names on it, but I didn't have any with me. but he said that it was okay though. So if you have any utility bills with both of your names on it take a copy of that.

Good Luck to you with your interview.

Also we were thinking of updating our forms since its been more than a year, I believe there is new format on some of the forms - should we fill up the new format or the old should be fine?

Hope we get out cards in the mail soon.

                            Best wishes to you.

Congrats to you as well!! It's been a long process I'm glad it almost over! Our Interview was on 22nd, so it was only 9 days of waiting for the approval. I'm so glad it wasn't that long of a wait!
