I-864 Form Question: Does the beneficiary have have to fill out the form also?

  • I-864 Form Question: Does the beneficiary have have to fill out the form also?

    I married my husband after we did our taxes. I work and I get paid by salary. Do I also need to fill out the I-864 form and provide copies of my taxes? My husband makes more than me and he is going to submit the form along with all of the other forms.

    No. Your (lawfully earned) income only comes into play if your sponsor doesn't earn enough and you want to use it to boost household income.

      I am in a similar situation as well. Me and my wife filed our taxes jointly. She is employed and I am unemployed at the moment. When I was working, my pay was greater then her that is why our tax return amount is high. Since I am not working at the moment, her current individual annual income will be same as current annual household income right?

        Yes. "Current" means right now, not last year or any previous time. Since you are not working now, your current income is 0, and therefore her current household income is 0 + her current individual income.

          My wife recently lost her job and she is looking for work. Now, what is my wife current annual income and current annual household income? We have joint sponsor

            Since she is not working now, her current income is 0; therefore her current household income is 0 (since your current income is 0, and 0 + 0 = 0).

                She should select 1.d unemployed, and then it doesn't ask for employer name.
