Hi everyone,
I was just browsing their website and came across this document that details pretty much everything about AOS - from filling instructions to what happens when they receive your application, how they process, how an officer should conduct an AOS interview, going all the way to sending out approval or denial notices. I found answers to many questions I had , and I hope you find too!
Unlike a few opinions posted on this forum, for instance, I found out that if you don't file concurrently, it's OK to send form I-485 with I-130 Receipt Notice (still pending) instead of waiting for it to be approved.
It's clearly written in their manual that:
"An officer should verify the immigrant category indicated on Form I-485 as the basis for adjustment. The applicant can attach:
•A copy of the Form I-797 Approval Notice for an approved underlying immigrant visa petition;
•The underlying immigrant visa petition together with the Form I-485, if concurrently filing; or
•A copy of the Form I-797 Receipt Notice for an underlying immigrant visa petition that remains pending."
Again, I found answers to many other questions I had. Good reading!
