  • Can I renew my DL before getting a GC?

    Hi guys!
I got my EAD already but nothing on the interview yet. My driver's license is expiring in August, but since right now I'm in a weird status where I'm not a visa holder or a GC holder. Am I able to renew? If yes, do I use EAD with SSN? Or just as I did when I was on visa? Do I get the "temp immgr status" on the new DL? I'm in New Jersey.
    Thanks a lot!!!

Yes, according to this, an EAD is a 3-point primary document. You just need 3 more points from secondary documents to add up to 6 points.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      Yes, you can renew.
Depending on state regulations, EAD can be used but not accepted everywhere. Virginia DMV accepts NOA for I-485 as proof of pending status and DL can be renewed as necessary with the original

I'm on the same boat here. so I went to asked DMV officer and they told me that they can only accept EAD while you are waiting for the green card so i think you will be fine to extend it.

However, In my case i did not get either EAD or GC yet so they told me i can do the AB60 Driver license ( I'm in California) ,

Which they recommend for people with adjusting of status do if they didn't get a EAD yet. which is better than driving with a license and the thing is you can only use for driving only.

It's said on the card that Federal limits apply Eg. you can't use for traveling by plane It doesn't serve as an ID as the full privilege driver license.

Once i got my GC i will go back and update it to the full privilege one.
