  • I-90 From/had to leave country! Please Help!

    Hi,

I recently received my green card in March through marriage to my wife last year. When it came it had completely the wrong information on it including my wife's date of birth, not mine, and the wrong country of birth. I filled the I-90 form to get it changed and went to my biometrics appointment.

However, I have recently had to leave the states for two months back to the UK due to a death in the family.

I have all the required documents including the green card with the wrong information on it, approval notice for my change of status etc and the I-90 form. Plus I have a new job offer back over in the states I am due to start on my return. I was in such a rush when i left i didnt even think to check if i needed to do anything else?

Will this be okay to get me back home? I really concerned about this now as there is no information about this sort of situation as I can find!

    Thank you for any help!

the card is just a piece of plastic that shows you have LPR status. Just because the card is wrong doesn't invalidate your status. You will be fine. Just carry all your papers together and ready to be referred to secondary inspection. Alternatively you can go to the embassy in London and see if there is anything the do for you.

Do you think I will have any trouble boarding the plane? I've read it can be sometimes difficult. But I have all the required docs with me

If are concerned, get a Transportation Letter from the consulate abroad

No all airlines flying to the US forward names and details to the US government for clearance before bordering passengers. unless you get flagged for some reason you will be fine

Each consulate has different procedures for issuing transportation letters. Call them
