  • AOS and Sponsoring Parents

    Hello,

I have started the process for AOS. I have done my biometrics and now just awaiting for the next update on my case.

I know I am nowhere near that step but once I get my GC, can I start sponsoring my parents? Can someone explain to me when, what and how? I heard that generally you can sponsor your parents after you become citizen but I also heard that with your partner's permission, you can start sponsoring even earlier.

I really want to get ahead with gathering information so that once I am all set and done, I can help my parents out. Especially my dad since he is a CDL driver and now the law is that in order to renew your CDL, you have to have a GC or be a citizen which really breaks my father's heart Being a truck driver has been his passion for almost 30 years and it pains me to see the sadness in his eyes.

So any input or advice will be greatly appreciated.

There is no category for parents of a LPR. You have to wait till you become a US citizen (3 - 5) years of being a LPR.
