  • Interview Done, No Approval Yet, Iraqi Spouse

    Good afternoon!

My husband is from Iraq (Kurdistan region) and came to the US on the K-1 visa in March 2016. We were married that April and submitted all our paperwork on June 4, 2016 via our lawyer. Our field office is San Antonio which seems to have faster processing times than Houston.

In August 2016, he received his AP and EAD, and we didn't receive anymore updates from USCIS until April 2017. The notice said that USCIS was ready to schedule our interview.

On May 3, 2017, our interview was scheduled on June 1, 2017.

At our interview, everything went really well and the IO said she would be approving our case, all our supporting docs looked, but she needed a few days to review our file. She said she should have it finished by Monday, June 5, and he would perhaps have his green card by July 1, 2017.

So far, we have not received any more updates and the hubby called USCIS last week and they said his case was outside normal processing times.

Now I do know that their are two things that stall our case.

#1 The question regarding military/weapons training was incorrectly mark "no" on our AOS form. However, it was marked as "yes" on our K-1 application. My husband addressed this during his interview (he was a security contractor for private security companies and for humanitarian NGOs) and the IO did not think it was a problem.

#2 My husband is from Iraq. I'm not sure if vetting procedures take longer for Iraqi nationals. I was wondering if they were other American/Iraqi couples experiencing the same delays in processing.

Thank you for your time! Good luck to everyone, and my your sanity be spared!

    WE CAN DO IT!

    Approved! :-)

So, the husband checked his status this morning and it was changed to "my new card is in production". YES! We are beyond thrilled!!! I have NEVER felt so relieved in my life. Good luck to everyone still on their journey! Persevere! You can do it!
