Can I file I-485 while Change of status application is pending?

Hi everyone. I came to Us at September 1st 2016 with a visitor visa. At the airport CBP officer gave me a stay limited stamp with no AOS/EOS/COS. But after i discuss with my immigration attorney i decided to apply for Change of status from B1/B2 to F1. I Filed my application at October 20th 2016. My COS application is still pending and i just got a letter from USCIS which is asking for request for evidence. Deadline for respond to USCIS is July 15th 2017. On the other hand i got married with an US Citizen at June 1st 2017. I want to file an I-485 as soon as possible. My question is Can i File I-485 while my change of status case is pending. If so how does it affect my application process since i have another open case at USCIS. Also what if i just don't respond to their request for evidence because basically they are asking me to submit a new application for change of status which is gonna cost me a lot of money.
