I can't believe this process is finally over, after 10 long months! My USC husband petitioned for my daughter and I. Here is our timeline:
September 8, 2016 - Application to adjust status based on marriage to US national received
September 16, 2016 - Biometrics appointment scheduled for October 4, 2016
October 4, 2016 - Biometrics done
November 17, 2016 - Received EAD cards for my daughter and I
June 8, 2017 - Interview scheduled for my daughter for July 11, 2017, but nothing for me. This was very weird, considering her petition is based on my marriage. Our attorney said she wouldn't be surprised if they had made a mistake sending the interview notification to my daughter instead of me because that was putting the cart before the horse. She said they have been making a lot of mistakes.
July 11, 2017 - My husband, daughter, attorney and I went to the interview. I wasn't planning to go in, was just going to wait in the waiting area for moral support. When the officer came out though, she called my name!!! We were all shocked. We told her I had not received a notification for an interview and she said that didn't make sense because she had both files and could not do the petition for a stepchild interview without the marriage interview being done first. Thank goodness I was there, otherwise they would have had to reschedule.
We went in, took the oath and started. She asked my husband to give her the full names of the people he was petitioning for, our birthdays, address, then questions about how we met, where and when we got married and who was at the wedding. Then she turned to me and asked those ridiculous questions that we had already answered on Part 3 of Form I-485 about whether I'd ever knowingly committed a crime, whether I'd ever been arrested, committed a crime I had not been arrested for, been a prostitute, planned to overthrow the U.S. government, belonged to any terrorist organisations, etc. Answered no to all of them. She asked me what my husband's parents' names are. Asked me when I first moved to the United States and what work I was doing then. She also asked when was the last time I left the country and if my daughter had gone at the same time. She then asked for originals of all the paperwork we had sent in, like all our birth certificates, our marriage certificate, our passports and the birth certificate of the son my husband and I share, the lease with both our names on it. We also gave her printouts of our medical insurance membership that shows all names of those covered and our cellphone plan with our names on it. She didn't ask for photographs or anymore evidence as we'd submitted all of that with our applications. She moved on to my daughter and only asked her for her full names and date of birth and the Processing Information that's on Part 3 of Form I-485. That was it.
She then said our case would be reviewed and we would get a response within 30 days. But she pointed at our son's birth certificate and said, "But this makes it pretty straightforward." She was super nice and friendly and laughed at how excited my husband looked when our attorney told the officer that I am pregnant again. Our attorney said we should expect to hear back in less than 30 days. They just tell you 30 days because that's protocol.
I got home and kept checking for an update on https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do. Nothing. Then today, 7/12/17, I checked again and it said: Case Was Approved - On July 11, 2017, we approved your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSCxxx. We will mail your approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice.
Yaaaaay!!! I am so relieved that this is finally over. Now waiting for the cards!!!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions on here.
