  • Temporary Greencard after an Interview

    Hi all,

I filed concurrent file on March 2017 and my I-485 is finally processed and got an interview date on August 5th.

Unfortunately, I-765 got rejected and I was unable to work til I receive my physical greencard.

I saw from a post that someone received a stamp for a temporary green card which is valid for a month.

I called USCIS officer and researched online about temp. Greencard, but couldnt find any information about this.

Can anyone explain what this is? And whether I am eligible to receive right after an interview abd whether I can start work with this?

    Thank you

If your I-485 is already approved (according to the online status), which means you are already a permanent resident, but you don't have the plastic card yet and you need proof of permanent residency (for work, travel, etc.) in the meantime, you can make an InfoPass appointment to get an I-551 stamp in your passport. (This is the same as a green card, which is also just an I-551 document.)

Just because you had an interview doesn't necessarily mean it's approved.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

You will only get i-551 stamp if your grren card is approved at your interview. If you do get it yes you can use it for work.

If you dont mind sharing why was your i-765 rejected?

I'd be more concerned about why I-765 got rejected, rather than being presumptuous about being able to work right after the interview

(and yes, if you are approved at the interview, ask for a I-551 stamp on your passport. If you are approved soon after, make an InfoPass appointment to get an I-551 stamp)
