F-1 while pending I-485

Hello guys,

I entered the US 4 years ago as F-1 and maintained my status the whole time and I just got married to a USC on March 2017. We filled and sent our application 2 weeks ago and we just got the Approval Notice (I-797). Virginia state and my school states that I'm eligible for in state tuition while my I-485 is pending by providing the I-797. My issue is that I want to be safe and have a back up plan by maintaining my F-1 status (enroll full time, not planning on using the EAD/AP combo,......). My question is : Will applying and filling the In-state application form have any impact on F-1 status and make me lose my status ?

That will not invalidate your F-1. However, I would not count on being able to obtain admission to the United States on your F-1 visa again, because you've demonstrated immigrant intent by filing I-485

no as long as school does not cancel your i-20/SEVIS in the process. Just out of curiosity why are you hedging your bets? Do you think your marriage will fail before you complete your AOS?
