  • Help! Interview is a week away, but now freaking out about birth certificate!

    Hi guys,

I am originally from China, and do not have birth certificate with me. In fact, because I was born before the started issuing unified birth certificate (around 1996), I don't even think I have a birth certificate. I do have the notarial birth certificate, and I did not get RFE so far. But from what I read online, it seems like the interviewer could still ask for original birth certificate during the interview.

So my question is, what should I do? Is there any other documents that I would need to bring with me except the notarial birth certificate? As long as it's attainable, I could ask my parents to do it for me ASAP.

    Thanks in advance.

Just explain that to them, and you should be fine!

You should be fine. I don't think it would be a big deal. I am in the same situation. In order to obtain a birth cert notarization, I have collected the single child certificate, a copy of the hospital record of my mom when she gave birth to me, the household residency certificate (That is "Hu kou ben" in Pinyin), and my parents' ID ("Shen fen zheng"). These docs were delivered to the local Notary Public Office. I believe you have been through the same thing. The officers from the Notary Public Office told my parents the birth cert notarization is what we would need in the GC application. They have done plenty of that in the same situation and nobody ever come back for more.

I would bring the copy of all above documents as a support of the original birth cert notarization. If the interviewer ever ask, then show them to him/her. Plus you would explain to the interviewer that China started to issue unified birth certificate start at 1996. I believe all these will give u a pass on the birth cert. Please keep us posted.

      Good luck for your interview!!!!!

It is my personal opinion not legal advice tho.
