Hi everyone, pls does anyone know the right thing to do in the above situation?. My spouse receives social security benefit. Is she supposed to file tax? What should be our response in part 6 question 20? Should it be" i am not required to file a Fed income tax return as my income was below the IRS required level...?" Thanks.

Whether she is required to file taxes in a given year is described in the Form 1040 instructions for that year, in a part near the beginning called "Do You Have To File?". If it says she wasn't required to file for any of the 3 years, and she didn't file, then she would check the box in Part 6 question 20 and attach a statement stating so.Originally posted by Freerising View PostHi everyone, pls does anyone know the right thing to do in the above situation?.
