  • RFE after interview

So I had my interview 11/8 and the IO asked for the extended version of my birth certificate which I did not have. I am in the process of getting it and hopefully I will receive it by the end of next week or beginning or the following week. Now I know that RFE usually cause a time setback but has anyone been in this situation? How long can the wait be? The IO said that everything looked good and that I just need to provide the one document.
    Forms sent 6/2
    Forms received 6/4
    Received texts/e-mails 6/6
    PD 6/5 & 6/6
NOA between 6/8 and 6/12 (I was out of town)
Biometrics letter in mail 6/17 w/ 6/28 date
    SR 9/2
    Contacted Congressman 10/1
    Called the Congressman's office 10/10
    Interview letter 10/10
    Approval Letters for I-765 and I-131 10/16
    Received EAD/AP card 10/17
    Interview 11/8 RFE after
    New Card Being Produced 11/16
    Conditional GC received 11/24

Extended birth certificate, can you pls tell me what that means categorically? Because I believe you submitted one during your while filing. So I will like to know.

Sadly, the birth certificate I submitted was the shortened version. Now keep in mind, I do not know if this is also the situation is other countries although I am certain it is for European countries. What USCIS failed to point out anywhere in the instructions is what kind of birth certificates will be needed.

Extended birth certificate is a birth certificate that in certain countries contains more information. Poland apparently gives the shortened version of the birth certificate to every newborn child but the extended one needs to be requested.

didn't get any RFE yet after my interview on oct24. and the IO only asked me for the original which i didn't have, copy only. i wonder if it depends on the IO + wouldn't you get RFE before the interview for the long version? and i do get the RFE how hard is it to get the long version ? do you just call the town in which you were born to get it ?

        Thanks

Interesting... i was wondering , what “extended birth certificate “means... mine was like a booklet with translator translating it to english..im from Europe . We used the same one for all documents required for our daughter to have dual citizenship, marriage cert. i believe... i know we used the same and it was sufficient elsewhere.. it has the names of parents, gradnparents, where the birth occured etc. now does the husband need the longer version or just the applicant? . what is exactly in the shorten version?

You have to have someone in your city whom you know and trust to get it for you but you first have to write an enablement letter stating all of your information like passport number, address where you are registered in your city and then provide the same information about the person who is going to represent you and pick up the document for you. The letter has to be notarized. I sent my letter on Friday via FedEx Express Priority, paid a hefty amount and the quote said delivery 11/13 by 6 pm. Now it will be delivered 11/15 by 6 which is not what I paid for. I am filing a complaint. And yes I know I have 87 days to get the document to the IO but I want it done as soon as possible.

I believe you have to have the original birth certificate. And USCIS never notified me or never stated anywhere in the instructions that I needed the extended birth certificate.

i filed under F2B with my father being the sponsor. IO said she had everything she needed even though I only submitted the shortened version copy of the BC. my father filed for me in the past as immediate relative but due to age out my i-485 was denied and i had to refile under F2B :/ (long wait). maybe that's enough of a proof of relationship. hopefully I won't have to provide the long version but in case i need to i appreciate the info.

Well I am not familiar with F2B but I hope you can get the issue resolved. It wouldn't hurt to just get the extended birth certificate though.

Extended Birth Certificate on the way

So my family friend who personally went to retrieve the document for me has sent it out today. It is either certified mail or registered mail but I hope I can get a tracking number once it is in the states.

My only concern is that since I have the original and I will be handing the original document hopefully, if possible, to the interviewing officer, will I be able to receive the document back? I talked to a USCIS rep and she said that USCIS may destroy the document but I have gone through so much stress to get this document and I paid to get it, that I do not think they have the right to destroy the document.

My plan is to personally go to the field office, hopefully get the IO and just show it to her/hand it to her and strongly advise that they do not destroy this document of mine.

Any experiences from fellow forum members?
