Today i had my GC interview thru marriage.
I had one of the weirdest encounter with the immigration officer, everything was going smooth, we swore to oath and we both provided our IDs, our names and address. The first document she requested was my daughter with certificate. We made an honest mistake of forgetting our daughter's birth certificate in our big folder. My spouse verified her address, her signatures in the forms and full name and strangely she was asked to leave and wait in the waiting room on the basis that because that interview was meant for applicant. She was not separated so they can ask her the questions, but she was simply waiting for me outside. Isn't that weird? After she left, she asked me why I was there, I said for Green card. she said Yes. Then she asked me how I met my wife, my last entry date to U.S. then she was basically going over my I-485 application and updating my work history, verifying my informations and signatures , update change of addresses and added my daughter information (name, dob etc) in the form and finally asked me the Yes/No questions as per I-485 form. As much as she was convinced my marriage was bona fide, she implied that us forgetting the birth certificate raises a red flag. So I showed her the proof of our marriage wedding photos, bank accounts, and lease agreements. I also gave her about 70 pics that we printed from our phone for day to day photos including my daughter's timeline photos, some ceremony photos, honeymoon photos and many more. I also told her I can go home and bring the birth certificate but she did not reply to that. After the interview was done i was told that my file will be reviewed and I should keep an eye on my status online, to see of any updates. She said it can be by the end of the week, 3 months or technically it can take up to 120 days. She also explained to me that if I get approved for the green card, it will be for 10 years because my marriage is over 2 years and I can file for citizenship three years from the issuing date of the green card. Anyways, she escorted me out and shook hands. I decided to just drive straight home and took the birth certificate of my daughter. While I did that, I remembered I have done my new medical and for some reason, she either forgot to ask me about it or she didn't need it. I had it with me in the interview but I completely forgot to hand it to her because she didn't ask me for it. The one I submitted has already expired because my PD was Nov 1 2016. I therefore went back to the USCIS office, and asked one of the officers there to take the documents ( birth certificate and new medical form- sealed) to my interviewer ( I memorized her name- won't mention it). The officer confirmed my interviewer got it and s/he said thank you (my interviewer)
I am confused, the officer was neither mean nor very nice. She was generally performing her work professionally but the fact that she explained to me about 10 year green card thing and then she said is technically allowed take up to 120 days to make decision is just confusing. On top of that, my wife was asked to leave and wait for me outside? I never read/heard of this experience. What do you guys think? What has possibly went wrong? has anyone had similar experience?
