  • EAD lost by USPS

    Hi,

Up to yesterday everything went well with my application. I received online updates and notice of approval of my Combo card (EAD + travel parole) via mail over 2 weeks ago. I have been reading this forum to compare my experience with others and found it very helpful.
Since most of the people here receive their EADs within 2-3 days after their online status has changed to "Card was mailed" I started to worry.
I have decided to call USCIS to check if they can provide a tracking number of the mail with EAD. When they did, I was able to see that my EAD was sent on October 27th 2017 ("Card was mailed" status changed online on 10/26/2017) and it was out for delivery to our home on October 28, 2017, 11:12 am. After that there is only one more update:
    October 29, 2017, 1:12 am
    Delivery status not updated
The delivery status for this item has not been updated as of October 29, 2017, 1:12 am.
Once I found out the current status I called USPS and immediately filed a claim. I went to the local Post Office but they couldn't find this package and they are unable to explain what happened to it. I am going to see their supervisor today as he was unavailable yesterday, although I am already sure there is not much they can do about it. There is no personal responsibility for lost mail @ USPS so no one really cares.
If there is anyone here who went through similar experience and can advise what to do next I would really appreciate it.

Hey there. I am dissapointed by USPS as well. I was waiting for the invitation for biometrics and felt that it is getting too long. I called USCIS on 11/8 and they said that they mailed it to me on 10/27/17. They said that my biometrics is scheduled for 11/14/17. I felt frustrated that I did not even know that my biometrics was about to happen and I have not even received a mail or any notifications! USCIS said, they will fax it to me the next day when I called them because we need this notification to go to the appointment.
However, I have received this letter same day in the evening. It was from an organization who kindly took an action and send it to my address. They said USPS delivered it to them by error and they wanted this mail to reach me. This is sad because my address is way different from theirs.
I suggest you call USCIS and ask to reproduce the card. Or wait for a few more days and then take an action.

I just talked with Emma, one online customer representative told me that actually tracking number can be got from USCIS online account, once tracking number is generated by USPS it will show up in your case.
      PD: 08/30/2017

11/14/2017, I-765 status was changed to "New card is being produced".
11/16/2017, I-765 status was changed to "Card was Mailed To Me".
11/18/2017, Approval notices were received in mail for I-765 and 1-131. they would be valid for one year.
      11/20/2017, Combo card was delivered.
      09/06/2018, EAD renewal was received.
      09/17/2018, Fingerprint Review was completed.
      11/19/2018, Interview was scheduled.

I got my EAD card but I just checked my case history and nothing shows up in terms of a tracking number. I actually got the EAD card and THEN the case status updated.

I would sign up for USPS informed delivery where they can your mail so that you know what you are supposed to receive that day.

I too did not have my case status updated with a tracking number. My online status in my USCIS account only changed after I had already received my EAD card and even then it just said card mailed. If you look within your USPS Informed Delivery account, there is a tab for Packages towards the top menu bar. EAD/AP cards (at least mine) are sent with USPS Priority Mail and appear as a package in your USPS account. So you should be able to track it there prior to it being delivered.

Thank you I just got the text from USPS about my tracking number and then asked Emma to verify.

OPT EAD card not delivered by USPS

                    Hello friends,
I am also in the same boat as descibed above.

My EAD was approved at the start of this year and dispatched. I have the tracking number as well, but USPS seems to have mishandeled it. I have complained and escalated it with USPS to no effect.
I just wanted to be prepared for the worst outcome that USPS is not able to recover the mail.

Could someone please help me understand the process and asnwer my queries?

                    If USPS losses the card,
                    1. The first action is to log a Non-Delivery of Card case with USCIS, how long should I wait to initiate this?
                    2. In the case of worst outcome that USPS says they are not able to locate the card, will the USCIS not issue a duplicate card, since it was not delivered to me in the first place?
                    3. And if it come to this that I have to log a fresh new application and again wait for 3 months, how do I maintain my legal status as I have already graduated and the start dat of EAD was supposed to be January 15?

Would really appreciate if someone can give their inputs and help me navigate this situation

                    Thanks!

I read somewhere on the USCIS website that you may include prepaid self-addressed FedEx envelops for important items like biometrics, EAD, interview notice and well, green card. It all adds up fast but I’d rather pay for more reliable delivery service. IMHO

                        EAD received.

An update on my case: I received my EAD replacement card today. It took them 6 months since I applied on January 8th, 2018 to produce a new one. I didn't raise any SRs. I have been patiently waiting for a response...
It seems that the worst part is USPS. I went through hell to receive my mail. I requested a hold at our local post office this time and since the early morning they sent me few confusing updates. Long story short - I have it.
If you do not receive your mail/card etc. do not bother waiting for a miracle. Get a letter from USPS immediately and file an application to USCIS.

                        * Even though I sent a check for the entire amount - I got it back since it was well proven by me that USPS lost it.

                        GOOD LUCK.
