My wife received her 10 year Green card on Monday, we were married over two years on the date of our interview. Our priority date was November 14, 2016.

Congrats! I was just explaining that if your 2-year anniversary is on 09-01-2018, your interview is on 08-01-2018, and your case is not approved at the time of the interview BUT on 09-01-2018 or later, then you will get the 10-year card.

          Hello,

I went through some of your replies , thank you so much for the amount of info you put in here. your efforts are very much appreciated ideed!

I have a silly question lol.... if more than two years grants the 10-year GC what about 17 years of marriage and 3 kids... Will that take us directly to the citizenship step or we still have to get the 10-year card and wait 3 year then apply for citizenship?

I know it is a silly question but asking out of curiosity.

          Thank you!

Aboslutely not! Citizenship is not a right its a privilege. I sympathize with folks going through the process but NEVER think you're entitled to it. Not that it was your intention with the question but its always a misconception people get.

To answer your question no. If you're married to a USC you must have a GC for 3yrs. If you're not married to a USC you must be a GC holder for 5yrs. There's also a required continual presence in the US time frame to meet too. Google N-400 and see the instructions.

Thank you! I am glad to be of assistance.

Your question is not silly, at all. Some countries, like Italy, will grant you citizenship for being married to an Italian citizen for 3 years. There is no interim permanent residence and you do not even need to have resided in Italy. They just hand you the passport. BUT.... not the US. The clock resets when you get your green card. So if your green card is approved before 2 years of marriage, you get the conditional card. Then you file for removal of conditions 90 days prior to your 2-year anniversary as a permanent resident. Then, 90 days prior to your 3-year anniversary as a permanent resident who has been married to a US citizen, who has been a citizen for those 3 years, you can file your application for naturalization.
Same thing if you have been married for 2 years when your AOS is approved. You get the 10 year card. Clock resets and you then file your application for citizenship 90 days prior to your 3-year anniversary as a permanent resident who who has been married to a US citizen, who has been a citizen for those 3 years.

We also applied in January 2017. Around February this year, the status in the uscis page changed from "waiting for interview" to "call this number to receive information". I guess it was around the time that processing estimates increased. Last week the status changed again to "we updated your name" and not understanding what that meant I called, the person told me my case is being reviewed now. Does any of you have received that kind of update before? How long since then will we wait for an answer?
