  • Tested Positive for TB Skin Test due to BCG Vaccine HELPP! :(

    Hi Guys!

I was born in Philippines, and received a mandatory BCG Vaccine (for Tuberculosis). It was given at birth and in 1st Grade.

Anyway, I did TB Test, and its looking like its going to test positive since i'm getting a little reaction on my skin.. I'm aware that Chest Xray is my next step.
I'm pretty sure it will come out clean since i had done one recently.

I'VE read in forums that doctors might prescribe medication for 9 months which is potentially damaging to the liver

ANY of you guys had similar experience? did you have to do medication?

Almost all of us who received BCG as children will get a false positive result from the Mantoux test. This is the explicit drawback of the Mantoux test, and your healthcare provider should know that quite well. They can run a inferon-y blood test if it is cheaper than the x-ray (and its subsequent image analysis) https://www.cdc.gov/tb/publications/...sting/igra.htm

When you tested positive, did you still do the Xray? DO you think if the Xray came back normal, would they still put you on medication? im just worried with what i read from forums about doctors prescribing pills

You only get pills if the xray fails you too.

Hi! I have BCG and got a positive result for Montoux. In case of a positive result, they always do XRAY. My XRAY came clean and the doctor did not ask me to take any medication.

            Thanks for the info guys!

I went to the health department today, It was negative! I was so surprised! I have this big reaction on my skin. a 24mm iritation/redness/erythema.. I got so stressed because it was seemed a little raised but they said it wasn't the reaction they were looking for!!!!
