You have to pay for I-485. As an I-485 applicant, you can also file I-765 to apply for an EAD for free and file I-131 to apply for an Advance Parole for free.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      Pay

Paying for i-485 will give you the free benefits of permission to work(EAD) and AP in case you want to travel.

When you file and pay ($1225)for your I 485 application, the fees for EAD (work permit which allows you to get a job) and AP (travel document, so you can leave and re enter the US once approved while your I 485 is still pending) are waived.

She/he does not have to pay the $1225 because she already paid for the approved I130 so its less $535

The fee for I-130 is $535 and the fee for I-485 is $1225.
