  • Travel with approved EAD and AP while waiting for Green Card post-interview?

While I wait for my green card post-interview am I eligible to travel with EAD and AP? My attorney advised against it with current immigration issues but was wondering how other people have handled similar situations? Appreciate any input!

The question is whether your AOS is approved (and thus you are a permanent resident) or not. If you are already approved, you are a permanent resident but just haven't received the card yet, and you should try to get an I-551 stamp as proof of permanent residency before leaving. If you are not yet approved, you are fine to travel abroad on your AP; you can return on that AP even if you get approved while you are away.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

There has been no online change of status other than the IO stating approval at the interview itself. Which I'm assuming it means I haven't been approved yet.

You can travel but your attorney is right. If you are refused for any reason your AP is invalidated the same day nd you have no way to get back and appeal or reopen thier decsion if it is made while you away.

Do not have experience of travelling but was contemplating the same. My lawyer was adament I should not think about it. Was told to wait for at minimum decision notice before even making reservation. Logic being that worst case I could take notice to office to get stamp in case card itself did not arrive. That online status does not show, does not mean anything. I was approved over a week ago (have both approval notice & card in meantime) and status still shows that notice for interview was sent... We also signed up for informed delivery as suggested by many. The scary thing is that day card arrived, the information was that no mail was there. All days thus far (~ month) we got email with exact mail that arrived in box later. Only day no scan, the day the card is there? Sorry to not give you more uplifting news. But you waited this long, would not risk it!

Thank you for sharing your experience. Based on the uncertainty, I believe I'll take the cautious road and not travel until I have my green card in hand.
