  • Received i-797 and approved, now what?

My wife finally received a new notice called the i-797 and it says the application for permanent resident has been approved and that a Permanent Residence Card will arrive soon. This makes it sound like not a Green-Card so am I missing something? How can one apply for a SSN or equivalent (need it for correcting the tax information as a spouse) or can she even apply for it, now?

You will probably receive the green card in the following next day after that you can apply for SSN
    Congratulations💯💯💯
I’m still hanging in there with the process...

Congrats! Just curious what was your 'Priority Date'? and did you have an interview? if yes when was it?

Your wife can apply for an SSN once she gets the green card by going to the nearest Social Security Administration office. This link will let you search via zip code: (https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp). She can download and fill up their form and take it with her original passport and green card to apply for one in person.

Green card = permanent legal resident. Of course with this you have to renew it. If you have been married more than 2 years before you got approved, then she will receive the 10 year GC. In this case you won't have to renew it if you will be applying for citizenship. Congratulations!

I don't know what the Priority Date is as it was BLANK, not even sure what this PRIORITY DATE is for but interview was about September 23rd, if I remember the date correctly.

So from what I understand Permanent Residence Card = Green Card aka, did they change the name of the Green Card?

          Just to clarify,

Once I get the Permanent Residence Card
          1) Fill out the form from the website before hand
          2) Just go to the SSA office (meaning don't need to make appointment?)
          3) Have wifey show passport / card / IDs
          4) Just wait for Card

If I'm missing something above, please do help. And thanks to everyone!

seems like i can't edit my post so sorry for double post. Where is the form I need to fill out for 1) above? I can find the place to request for the benefits, but I am having trouble finding the form to apply for a card.

I'm in same boat, my wife got approved but not mine.
As per my knowledge, 765 is for EAD card only. You should get 485 interview letter and approved, then will get GC.
I'm not you will get SSN with EAD card or not.

11/27 spouse 765 approved confirmation mail (not mine)
12/01 spouse 765 approved text and status changed to online (not mine)
12/02 485 LUD changed for both but no status change. It’s just soft update(last update date got changed in online)

My spouse got approved 765, but I didn't get my status yet. Usually how long to get approve mine?
Will I receive together in one shot?

Please share here, if anyone having experience like this.

No worries. The 'Priority Date' is a date that USCIS assigns to our cases. It is around the date your application was received initially at the USCIS. Anyway here are the answers to your questions:

                1) Fill out the form https://www.ssa.gov/us-visa-and-immi...forms/ss-5.pdf before hand
                2) Just go to the SSA office (meaning don't need to make appointment?) Appointment is a good idea as walk-ins usually have a substantial wait time. Call them to see if appointments are available
                3) Have wifey show passport / card / IDs yes, give them the completed form, show all originals as requested and you will get a receipt stating that you will get the SS card in 2 weeks. Verify they have your name and address is accurate on the receipt and you are done. The card usually comes within 1 week.
