  • Newly married, what should we be doing to increase chances of getting greencard?

    Hi,

On ESTA. Married today. Preparing all the paperwork to apply for a greencard.

    I-130
    I-130A
    I-485
    The e-notification form
    The affidavit of support
    The work permit application
    The travel abroad permit

    Also booked my physical.

What else should my wife and I be doing to increase the chances of a good result? We’ve been together over 2 years so we’ve tons of ******** memories. We spent one year in the US and another in Ireland together, now back in the US.

We don’t have proof of a lease together, but we have proof of living at the same address, we don’t have a shared bank account, but we’ve hundreds of photos together, receipts of flights we’ve taken together, proof of her insurance on a car I owned, among other purchases.

Is there anything we need to do from now on since we’re married?

    Hi again!

Congrats on your marriage! Welcome to the club
I am no expert, but with my experience I would wait with your i-693 ( medical exam)
The reason is that a medical exam is valid for 1 year, and these days it can take up to a year for you to get an interview where you can also hand over your medical exam.
So i would suggest doing your medical exam when you actually get your interview notice, in which you can schedule an exam right away. exam and results take max 3 days.
    Again thats my personal opinion.

Proof that your marriage is real, your name on her insurance, phone bills with your name on it etc.
For example, it's easy to add your name on a gas/electric bill, your name on Comcast bill.. just walk in any Comcast store and ask for your name to be on there too. just both show ID and youre done. stuff like that.
You're definitely on the right track! Maybe proof of some hotel booking etc, but I would worry about it to much. Again if your marriage is real you'll be totally fine!

I'd say try to open a joint account too. It's super easy. My husband and I even managed to open joint account when we were in different states.
