  • Forms filing process and fees

    Hi,

I know this is a silly question. So I'm applying for a green card through marriage. I'm currently on F-1 visa (student visa) and have married to an American citizen. My spouse and I have completed I-130, I-130a, I-485, I-765, I-864 and I-693 (already received and sealed from the clinic). First, does anyone know if we need to fill out any other forms for the green card application? Second, I'm really confused about how to actually file those forms. I have completed them, signed them and put them in separate envelops. Where should I file all these forms? Also, I know there are different filing fees for different forms. How do I actually pay for them? Does the post office charge me when I mail them? Do I put a personal check in each of the envelop? Or how does this work? Please help me out. Many thanks.

    Best,

    Johnny

    Hi Johnny!

Those arent silly questions at all.
I am in the same situation as you are, and I filed everything last December.
You could add form G-1145 to your package, that way youll receive texts and email notifications on your case.
Since you are concurrent filing, you need to send it to Chicago.

    USCIS Chicago Lockbox
For U.S. Postal Service (USPS) deliveries:

    USCIS
    P.O. Box 805887
    Chicago, IL 60680-4120

For FedEx, UPS, and DHL deliveries:

    USCIS
    FBAS
    131 South Dearborn-3rd Floor
    Chicago, IL 60603-5517

You pay for them by adding a checks in your package. 1 check attached to your I-485, and 1 check attached to your I-130
Look at the fees. Here is a link thatll help ya out.

Use this form to apply for lawful permanent resident status if you are in the United States.

look at the special instructions and your fee will appear.
The fee for I-130 is $535

You should mail all the forms together. If they aren’t received together, everything but the I-130 could be delayed or rejected. Those forms must be received with the I-130 or a copy of the receipt for the I-130. I just stuffed all of the forms and documents in a big priority mail envelop with each main form and their supporting forms and documents separated by paperclips.

Place two checks (I’ve seen a single check be accepted on this forum) for $535 (I-130) and $1225 (I-485 + biometric fee). The instructions tell you how much each form costs.

The G-1145 (you just need one for the whole package) will allow you to receive texts/emails when your case is accepted, usually within 2 weeks. I also recommend filing I-131 (advanced parole) now with your package. You may not even have any plans on traveling, but the green card can potentially take a long time and plans can change. You cannot leave the US without advanced parole or you will abandon your I-485 and lose your work permit.

Send it to the Chicago lockbox location the last poster stated. The post office will charge you. We paid about $6-7 for the big priority mail envelope which comes with 2nd day delivery and a tracking number.
