  • when to sponsor parents

    Hello,

I have my mother visiting me on a visitors visa. I wanted to know when can I sponsor my mother for a green card or dependent visa.

I have cleared my Labour and ready to apply for I-140. I have heard from my neighbour who got his green card two weeks back that he can sponsor his parents if they were here with him. His wife and kids are about to get the green card and they are here as well too.

My question is: If my mother comes back while i have my green card approved, can I sponsor here as she will be in US at the time of application, so that she can stay with me forever. She lives all by herself in India as my dad passed away.

Is this a possible way or do I need to wait until I become a citizen to sponsor her?

    Any advise is deeply appreciated.

    thanks,
    Arun

I don't think there is anyhting called a "dependent visa" and as far as I know, you'd have to be a citizen to file for her but if sh ehas avisitors visa she ewill likely get 6 months each visit.......she can tell an immigration officer when she enters that she plans to stay that long, she really can ..all you have to ensure is that she leaves on or before the date stamped on her I-94
