  • Moving out of state while waiting for the Green Card interview notice

    Hi there!

Can anybody share their experience with "changing the address" while moving to a different state? Was it all successful or you feel like it slowed down the process?

We are moving in a month, so I am worried about the whole "change of address" situation and if that can slow things down..

    Thank you for sharing!

Dude If I were you I would wait until you get the notice to appear to your interview. I've known multiple people that "changed their address" and never received notice and their case was terminated for no show. I would just wait it out that's what I did.

Ugh. That?s not the option for us, as we are moving for a job. I guess all I can do is change the address and call them every two weeks to see what?s up.

      Anyone else ?

Call them and let them know!

Also, change your address both with USCIS and USPS.

This way, you'll get your interview notice in the new place. Note that this may change when you get your interview notice depending on how busy your new local office will be.

You can also notify usps to redirect all mail to your new address.

So when you change address they will send docs to new local office? Do you know what happend if the docs are already on the old address local office and then you move?

Thank you all for the tips! I will definitely do also the change for the post office, plus for my EAD I also got an email notice, from my understanding it?s the same for interview !!!

I would think people moving is a normal thing, it just makes me worried that the move will crash with the interview notice being mailed. (Submitted July 2017, work permit received in November) .. plus when it comes to uscis website nothing there is up to date: so I will have to call and make sure that the address is changed for SURE

Our application was moved from the old place to the new place when we moved. They try to schedule the interview in the local office close to where you currently live. So our interview is in our new place.

Yes, changed address online for all the forms with USCIS, and also changed address with USPS. Yes, out of state.

I would definitely change your address with USPS and sign up for Informed Delivery with USPS.

Do you happen to know your mailman? I do. I also know the people at the post office. If I ever need anything I just swing by and ask.

My spouse did a change of address with USCIS for the EAD as F-1 student and there were no issues. As long as you get an email confirming that you made the request and then an email that the request was completed, then you should be fine.

                      *in my humble opinion*

You're welcome! USPS informed delivery is nice. You'll see a scanned image of most of your mail. If you don't get a piece of mail, you are able to initiate the recovery process.

                          Best of luck!
