My spouse feels little uncomfortable whenever I speak of life insurance. If I persuade, he will agree. But before that please tell me if life insurance is required or optional to apply for adjustment of status

If either one of you has access to it through your employer, it should be relatively inexpensive. We have life insurance/accidental dismemberment/critical illness/long term disability. We pay less than $15 per bi-weekly paycheck. Say, $390 total for the year/ 365 days/2 people = $0.53 per day per person. And I know that if something happens to either one of us, we'll be OK.
It's weird to talk about it but I can tell you that I know of people getting into accidents and losing a limb or two and they didn't have long term disability which is often times paid for your employers. A good friend of mine had his dad, brother and sister all pass away within 18 months - just like that. They were not ready for any of those instances. They had to scramble.
Here's what the I-130 instructions state: Best of luck!
you should submit one or more of the
following types of documentation that may prove you have a bona fide marriage:
(1) Documentation showing joint ownership of property;
(2) A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence, meaning you both live at the same address together;
(3) Documentation showing that you and your spouse have combined your financial resources;
(4) Birth certificates of children born to you and your spouse together;
(5) Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship. Each affidavit must contain the full name and address of the person making the affidavit; date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit; and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage; or
(6) Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union.
NOTE: You must submit clear and convincing evidence that you and your spouse entered into the marriage in good faith and not for immigration purposes if you married your spouse while your spouse was the subject of an exclusion, deportation, removal, or rescission proceeding (including during the judicial review of any one of these proceedings); or you are a lawful permanent resident that obtained your permanent residence through a prior marriage that was not determined by the death of your spouse and you are filing your petition for your spouse that you were married within five years of obtaining your permanent residence.

There is no necessity in life insurance to apply for adjustment of status. Concerns the question of whether insurance is needed or not, this is a personal matter for everyone. If you have such a financial opportunity, it is better to make insurance and sleep peacefully. For me, it is essential to know that I will not become a burden for your family if something happens to me. There are good examples 5 million dollar life insurance policy that covers all possible situations and unforeseen circumstances. At the same time, the price is handsome and affordable.Last edited by SikiRikis; 07-11-2021, 08:56 AM.

Life insurance is not necessary for everyone, but it can be an important financial tool for some individuals and families. Life insurance provides a lump sum payment to your beneficiaries in the event of your death, which can help cover expenses such as funeral costs, outstanding debts, and living expenses. It can also provide financial support for your loved ones, such as paying for college tuition or providing for a spouse or children.
Whether or not you need life insurance depends on your individual circumstances, such as your age, health, financial situation, and family situation. Here are some factors to consider:
- Dependents: If you have dependents such as a spouse or children who rely on your income, life insurance can provide financial support for them in the event of your death.
- Debts: If you have outstanding debts such as a mortgage or car loan, life insurance can help pay off these debts so your family is not burdened with them.
- Final expenses: Life insurance can help cover final expenses such as funeral costs, which can be a significant expense.
- Estate planning: If you have a large estate, life insurance can be used to pay estate taxes or provide an inheritance for your heirs.
If you do decide to purchase life insurance, it is important to choose the right type and amount of coverage for your needs. This can involve working with a financial advisor or insurance agent to assess your needs and options.

Though life insurance is not required to apply for adjustment of status, buying life insurance protects your spouse and children from the potentially devastating financial losses that could result if something happened to you. It provides financial security and helps to pay off debts, living expenses, and any medical or final expenses. If you decide to buy it, my advice is to look through the Arias Agencies reviews here They helped me make the choice and provided me with useful info.Last edited by BNic; 05-18-2023, 05:07 AM.

Life insurance is typically optional when applying for adjustment of status in the United States. It's not a mandatory requirement, but it can be a helpful way to demonstrate financial stability and support your case. You can consider discussing the benefits of life insurance with your spouse and decide together if it's the right choice for your situation. Learn about savings plans here
