  • Health insurance dielmna. Help!

    Hi guys

I've been in US since August on Travel Insurance.

I am Canadian,Adjusted Status (US Citizen spouse) in October and EAD approval December 21 and received my SSN 2 weeks ago

How do you guys get health insurance since its past enrollment. Is there other way to get health insurance?

Your US Citizen spouse should be able to add you to the employer sponsored plan. If you have a live event such as "loss of coverage, going on leave of absence, returning from LOA, Marriage", you report the event and it can usually be back dated to 120 days (I think). It's all done online. But it's probably easiest to contact HR too to make sure the change "takes".
In your case, you are losing coverage and your spouse should be able to add you. It's worth a shot.

A status change such as a marriage should allow you to be added to your spouse's insurance, they'll prob want a copy of marriage certificate. I added my wife that way.

Special enrollment opportunities Outside Open Enrollment, you can enroll in or change a Marketplace plan if you have a life event that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period.

for healthcare.gov the period is 60 days. I think for my own insurance it was within 30 days after getting married.
Probably best to check with HR to see whats possible. Why did you not enroll in january? Was that not possible without SSN?

Otherwise, you can purchase short term health insurance at https://www.insubuy.com/short-term-health-insurance/, until the next open enrollment.
          Thank you!!!
