  • Medical Examination and Vaccination Record Update for Adjustment of status case

    HELP NEEDED:

Hello, we have a question about updating medical form:

We received a letter from USCIS saying our medical examination form got expired and we need to submit:
    - New I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record
    - Tax returns of 2017

In our previous I-693 form, I was noted having "Positive TB skin test and Negative X-ray results", which is dated end of 2016. I am from a country where we get vaccinated for TB in childhood and therefore skin test always shows positive and xray always shows no problem

Now, doctor (civil surgeon) wants me repeat the X-ray even though the previous results (dated 2016) showed no problems, and it was clear.

I can't get X-ray now because we recently found out that I am pregnant. I don't want to put the baby in risk by getting X-ray at this point.

Will they deny my green card (adjustment of status through marriage to permanent resident), if we do the following:
    - deny the x-ray now and include DR's note saying "she is pregnant and will get the x-ray after the delivery of the baby, which will be sometime in July, 2018"
    - and include the copy of X-ray results from 2016, that shows the I was negative, clear.

the letter stated that we have 90 days to submit requested information from the letter date. If we don't file within 90 days, our case will be dismissed. Does this mean, we will exceed the 90 days if we just file without xray results now and do the xray after baby arrives?

do we have to redo the whole medical examination form at the time I will be ready to get the xray and send them? or I will just send them the xray results, separately at that time?

Has anyone done it like this and got approved?

    Thank you very much.

    Greatly appreciate your help.

This has a simple solution. Your physician fell short here; especially, after learning you had received the BCG vaccine in the past. In individuals like you, a blood test is preferred. It's called Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs). This test is preferred because prior BCG vaccination does not cause a false-positive IGRA test result. Since the BCG vaccine may cause a positive skin test reaction, that's just not the best route. Remember that a positive TB skin test may be due to BCG vaccine itself or due to infection with TB bacteria. So when someone says they had the BCG vaccine, you just skip the skin test, the X-ray (which is not diagnostic anyway)
This tests has some advantages. It takes one visit. You usually get the results within 24 hours. It may cost around $100 but between dropping another $100 and delaying the process, I'd just put the $100 together and get it done. Print this entry for your physician if that's easier.

    All the best to you!
