    • I have had the same SSN for the past 10 years with different statuses ( J1 exchange student when I was 19), when back to my home country then same SSN when moved as an F1 OPT and filed taxes and now I will be using the same. Your SSN is your forever and won?t change, what you need to do is call SSN number and have them mail you a new card ( they print on the card your type of authorization )

Now the question is when I get my new EAD should I go to social security to make sure everything is aligned with my new "status" and make address change?

To answer your question, your SSN is yours forever, unless you ever need to change your identity and enter Witness protection. However, it's a good idea to update your immigration status with the Social Security Administration. Since you didn't check the box to get a new card, you will have to go to the SSA to update your status. Calling does not work. In some states US citizens are able to request a replacement card online OR you can mail the documents. It's best to just go in person.

You will have to update it again once you get your green card and later, once you become a citizen. You want all your IDs to have the reflect your current immigration status, otherwise the e-verify system may not be able to confirm your identity.

Side note: Did you get your USPS tracking number? If you have informed delivery, you can turn on notifications there. You should get a text with your USPS tracking number. We got the text from USPS around 2pm and the case tracker app notified us the card was picked up. Now another text letting us know the ETD is 08-06-18 by 8pm.

Thank you so much for the info. I will go to the social security a few days after I receive the card to be on the safe side. I haven't got the USPS tracking number yet. Hoping to get it on Monday. I have informed delivery set already. I am lucky to live in a building where the management follows up on the deliveries very closely and get heads up for all the packages so I am hoping that I won't have a problem with the delivery, fingers crossed!

Wait so if I E verified myself on the website and the status message I got ?Conglutulations. You are authorized to work in the United States? I still need to go to SSN office to update? I also didn?t request for SSN card as I already had one.

I think you are on a safer side than me. I couldn't e-verify my SSN neither with my new address nor the old one. I also want to make sure my address change is in the Social Security system correctly. I was trying to avoid the trip which will take my whole day but as it was suggested better for me to stay on the line for a day and make sure everything is up to date.

E-verify confirms that you are authorized to work. It does not confirm your immigration status. I never got around to updating my SSN until last year in December. I've been a citizen since 2005. No one ever told me I was not authorized to work. It was only ever an issue - more of an inconvenience- when I was a student and the school would ask to see my green card every semester. In the mean time, I had become a citizen ages ago.

I would go to the SSA on a Friday about 1/2 hour before they close. It's all up to you. That's just my 1 cent advice.

Oh ok. Got you. I?m going to wait until after the green card interview process is over then to go abc do that. I only have an EAD for now. Thank you.

                    Hello

From my own experience, you can most definitely get your SSN with your EAD card not the receipt but the card. So go right ahead to the SSA, take along your government ID assport or DL.

                    All the best.

Yep - I-130, I-765, I-131 haven't moved from 'Case was received' since the beginning. Only the I-485 has had movement, like you.
Phew - thanks for confirming krittika. And good luck in the next six weeks - crossing my fingers for you.

Oh you know, I did! My email from USCIS actually didn?t show the tracking number (not sure if it is a glitch specific to me), so I had to log onto the USCIS portal to retrieve it. After that I signed up through USPS for every kind of text notification they offered, so I was getting messages through the night of the envelope leapfrogging from truck to truck until it got to me

Hi! We have the same PD 3/2. But I got an RFE on 7/6, and they received my RFE response on 7/16. No updates on EAD. Has your case changed to "ready to schedule interview" yet? Idk how long the RFE would delay my case and I'm pretty worried.
