  • Where do I hear about the interview first?

Married an American and applied for AOS. Did my biometrics on march 16th

What happens next? Interview? How/When should I expect to hear about it?

The stressful things about this is surviving on savings and not being able to earn money. I've been in the US since December and I haven't earned a penny since. Checking my mail box daily looking for a letter from USCIS.

Will the interview be shown in my 'case status' online account?

    Thanks

I share your pain Luke. I got here in September, still waiting on my EAD which I didn't apply for til December (rest of AOS was filed in October). I haven't heard anything yet but from what I've seen the updating of the websites is unreliable. You may get a notification but I wouldnt rely on it. I think the mail is more likely.

Depending upon where you are, in some field offices 50% of the cases take 4.5 months to be processed and in others up to 15 months. You could try requesting for your EAD to be expedited. Your best bet is to apply for jobs. I told my spouse today who is in a specialized engineering field. It doesn't matter if it's at Target or Walmart or the local gym. Get hired and get and offer in writing - an email will do.

Once you get that, tell them you need a week to think about it which is customary. Then call the national customer service number and request for your EAD to be expedited. Then get an InfoPass appointment and present the letter there. You might be able to walk out of there with a document that allows you to work. Even if the offer is ultimately rescinded or even if you don't even want the job, it doesn't matter. Just get a job. It does not need to be your dream job or a fancy job. You need a job offer to get the EAD expedited.

It is OK to not have a SSN right away. All they can ask you by law is "Will you now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status?". You will answer "no". That's the end of that. You need not say anything else. For them to see legally see your EAD, you need to be hired first. Basically, you bring it in the first day of work. They fill out the I-9. It's illegal to ask an applicant to show proof of employment authorization before then. If they tell you, "we e-verify", you say "that's great". They may not e-verify you before hiring you.

        Best of luck!
