  • I-485 Part 1 Question 19 - Visa Number

    Hi,
    Filling I485 and a little unsure about this question:
    Non-Immigrant visa number from this passport (if any)

    My current active passport does not have a visa in it.
    The Visa that allows me to be in the US is in my previous passport which is expired.

    Should I still provide the number of that Visa?
    Or leave blank since the passport I am filing under has no visa...

    Thanks for your help!!

        Even if your passport expired, once your visa has not expired still include the number in the application, it can still be used. USCIS wants to establish how authentic your entry was in the US. Provide a photocopy of the visa and or pages with the point of entry dates with the application.

        All the best.

          See I entered with two passports, one is new and the other one is old-expired with 10 years tourist visa in it! I have my new passport number on my I-94.
          If I put the visa number and send a copy, they will see that the passport number is not the same with the one I use to enter. I am sure they see this before but I want to be sure that they don't get confused and ask for more documents.

            even if your passport and visa are expired, that's still how you entered the country so that visa number should be filled in that little box.
            As for passport numbers you will use your current one.
            As for evidence, include copies of both passports, pages with entry stamps and the visa.

            Here's what I included:

            11. Passport of xxx;
            12. Previous passport of xxx;
            14. Passport page with admission or parole stamp (issued by a U.S. immigration officer);
            15. Passport page with nonimmigrant visa;
            16. Form I-94 Arrival-Departure Record;
            17. Evidence of Continuously Maintaining a Lawful Status Since Arrival in the United States;
            a. Form I-94 Arrival-Departure Record, including printouts of paperless I-94 admissions;
            b. Passport pages with an admission or parole stamp (issued by a U.S. immigration officer) to match I94 record;
            18. I-797B for current L1B Visa
            This is my opinion, not legal advice!
