  • Albany field office

    Hi Forum Experts,

Recently my case was transferred to NBC and I?m assuming after the application is reviewed at NBC and based off the local field office wait list, employment interview will be scheduled. My local field office is Newark NJ (employer location), and I work from capital region of NY Albany. If I change the address with USCIS to Albany, will it speed up the interview scheduling process given Newark will have more applications to process? And also I could save the trouble of driving down to NJ.

Thank you and appreciate all reponses

Not an expert and my forte isn't employment based AOS. However, I think you might be looking at the combined processing time for both family based and employment based AOS. If you scroll down, you will see the following:

Newark, NJ 9.5 Months to 21 Months Employment-based adjustment applications
Albany, NY 11.5 Months to 23 Months Employment-based adjustment applications

It looks like Newark, NJ processes them faster. Keep in mind that the first number 9.5 months is how long it takes for them to process 50% of the cases; the second number, 21 months is how long it takes to process 93% of the cases.
Here is a link to a good article that discusses how USCIS is phasing in interviews for employment based AOS. http://www.dinsmore.com/publications...loyment-cases/

If the link gets blocked, you can google in quotation marks "USCIS begins phasing-in interviews in employment cases". It will be the first result. It explains nicely what the National Benefits Center does.
" Behind the scenes, USCIS will transfer your pending I-485 from its current USCIS Service Center (either the Texas Service Center or Nebraska Service Center) to the National Benefits Center (NBC), a national clearinghouse that coordinates operations with the USCIS field offices. The NBC will organize your file and coordinate scheduling of an interview date and time with the USCIS field office nearest your residence. The NBC will mail you a notice informing you of the date, time and office address of your interview. After sending your appointment notice, the NBC will ship your file to the field office before your scheduled interview."

I wouldn't touch it. You might be shooting yourself in the foot by submitting a change of address which requires a lot of human intervention and increases the likelihood of human errors. I'd say just let it be in Newark but that is just my humble non-legal opinion.

    All the best.

      Hi UScitizenFilingforspouse,

Thank you so much for taking time to look at the processing times of the field offices and handing me the information. You are right and make a lot of sense. I should leave it as it is and wait for NBC to send out the interview notice.

      Thank you
