  • Filing AOS in May based on Marriage to USC

Has anyone gotten married in a court in Philadelphia. We already have the marriage license. Just wanted to know how much time it takes to register the marriage in court and how long does it take to get the marriage certificate after that? Need to do this within the next 2 weeks as my H1b is expiring by end of May.

Here you go. It looks like they have expedited service. You should give them a call.

You don't need to be in status to file AOS in your category (the Immediate Relative category: spouses, unmarried under-21 children, and parents of US citizens). So just file when you get everything ready, but don't worry about whether it's before or after your status expires.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thank you for your replies. Philly has the provision of self uniting license, so we got that

I have one more query. My background check is already completed by FBI, as i had applied for canadian PR earlier in the year. Do you think i should mention or include that in the packet?

They will often do another biometrics check no matter if you've had them before. They like to do them at every new application. For example you do them for your AOS and then should you want to apply for naturalization later, then they will do another biometrics check. If for some reason they decide you don't need to do it again, they will let you know, but it's a standard part of the process.

I got my DL extended on the basis of i485 pending receipt in Florida.
I was worried i wouldnt be able to drive after July 24 ( which is when my H1b expires) till the time my EAD comes. But i explained the situation to the lady at the counter. She considered my situation and talked to her superviser and the superviser issued the license for another year.
