  • ID names vs married name!!Help!!

    Hello again!

I will be submitting AOS through marriage to USC and i took my husband's last name, however, due to still being OOS, i am unable to change any valid documents under my name, only my marriage certificate has my married last name, do i use my maiden name on the forms or do they link the maiden names to the new married names?
Edit: i'm not able to even get a po box under my married last name

    Your advice is greatly appreciated!

    Suggestion

Just a suggestion. Think you use your husbands surname cos that?s your most CURRENT name but there is a place on the forms that ask you your PREVIOUS names, that place your put ur maiden name.
So that shows that is you. You are just transitioning from your family name to your husbands but that is just my thought. Good luck

I agree with Frosty56. In your case, your married name would be your legal name. You would put your maiden name under "previous names used". I did this and now any mail I receive from USCIS comes in my married name. Since I did it that way my EAD and green card will come in my married name. The only document I have that shows my married name is my marriage certificate.

It doesn't create a problem with USPS though(delivery purposes)? Because my mail still comes under my maiden name and because of being OOS i cant change it yet :/ BTW great timeline!!may i ask what state are you submitting from? Congratulations and good luck!! Thanks for your help!

I haven't had any issues. When USPS delivers they typically look at the address it's going to rather than the name. I was OOS as well so I definitely understand. Are your surnames physically listed inside your mailbox? I know some people's are.
And thanks! Things have been moving quickly but I feel the real wait begins now. I probably won't get any additional updates for months -_-. We will see how it goes. I submitted from Texas. Where will you be submitting from? I try to help where I can. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!
