  • Advice: Have a lawyer to review your package

    Hi all!

Just wanted to share my experience submitting my documents. My SO and I were worried about our applications so we wanted a lawyer to help us. The prices were crazy, in the thousands.

Then it occurred to us that, maybe we could fill out the forms ourselves and have a lawyer review them for us. The lawyer read through the forms, and was able to point out some inconsistencies like typos and small errors. He also recommended a certain way to put the forms and other documents. All this lasted less than 1 hour and cost $300 (Check for quotes with your lawyers though). He also answered some questions I had afterwards. Our application had no RFEs and went smoothly!

I figured I would share this as a possibility to some of you. I think it was worth it overall since he corrected us a lot and helped us put the package together. Of course, each lawyer is different so your mileage may vary here.

    Thats awesome,

You were lucky to have found a lawyer like that. When we were doing our application, we wanted to do something similar. The lawyer we found was an *******, with a 4.6 rating on avvo. They literally lied to us saying he would hear your case and help you out. All I wanted to do was show him our documents. He sat us down and charges us $125 for making us wait 2 hours and then talking to us for 15 minutes during which he talked about his wife and checked his email and also bitched about his other clients. It was basically a marketing campaign saying "you need me, you are a fool who understands nothing, I do, You need me."

I was very pissed after and I did not bother looking for other lawyers.

That's awful! Some lawyers can definitely be terrible to work with. Ours we found through yelp and probably had around 30 reviews but they were good reviews. I see you submitted your apps in April; best of luck with your application!
