  • Safe to travel with AP/EAD?

    Hi folks! Good day!
So my PD for AOS through marriage is March 30, 218.
I already did my fingerprint just last week May 3rd. I?m waiting for my combo card and hopefully will get it within the next 4-6mos.
So my question is, that would it be safe for me to travel back home using the Ead/AP combo card while waiting for my interview? I really want to visit my family so bad (Philippines)
Also I?ve been out of status for quite some time now (8years) came here as a tourist. Would that matter at all? I?m scared because of that 10year bar system.
Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated.

Yes - there is a very small risk that they could refuse you entry but this generally only happens very very rarely. If you dont have a criminal record, are not on a terrorist watch list and you dont engage in illegal activities when you are gone you will be fine.

Thank you. I just want to hear experiences from people like me who stayed for years and want to know if that's a problem or not.

just a personal opinion, its generally safe to travel with AP, but really at this point i'd rather wait for everything to finish to be on the safe side. 8 years of overstay is quite some time, although its generally forgiven being married to USC, but your case might get extra scrutiny from the officers. The risk is higher

and now that you're almost at your end point of getting status finally, just wait it out. There is a "disclaimer" at the approval notice that its still up to the border officer to let you in or not.

If I were at your shoes, 1 year is nothing. Secure yourself and get your green card

Yup, that's probably what I would do. Wait for that EAD/AP. Get a job, upgrade your job if you already have one, work extra hard, drive uber if you have to, so that you can really enjoy your family when you visit and viceversa.
