Does the processing time change depending on what category you file under? For example, when you file for a spouse verses filing for a child? Can a child case process faster?

Not really. It mostly depends on your field office and how backed up it is. Depending on your FBI name check most cases are ready to schedule interview under 45/60 days then they are forwarded to field office from NBC. After that long wait begins for a place on the roster.
