  • Army active or army reserve?

Hey you all so I have a question...
I know is an off topic question, but does it matter whether I join the Army active or reserves? My wife is pregnant and the baby is due in December. I received a Conditional GC and I want to be here when the baby is born. My wife and I both decided that it is best to go Reserves for now so I can be around her and the baby. I am trying to join the military because I always wanted to do this since I was 18 years old. I am also joining because they will help me pay for my graduates degree. I have an appointment with an Army recruiter Tuesday and I just want to know what to expect to hear from the recruiter. Will I be able to apply for citizenship after one year if I go reserves?
By the way thank you to everyone who prayed for me, when I asked for a prayer to get approved for my GC , when I attended my interview. I appreciated it you ALL! For those who are still waiting please hang in there your time is coming soon!

If you are set on the Army, go for it. All branches came to campus to recruit health professions students, and it seemed that the Air Force is one's best bet; especially if you are joining with at least a bachelor's degree. That would make you an officer. Next, is the Navy and then, the Army.

The Army reserves or any reserves do get called for duty, but they get called to fill in for those who get deployed.

My unsolicited opinion is to talk to more than one recruiter in each branch, in order to make sure that you get the full story of benefits and loan repayment programs.

As far as citizenship goes, I am pretty sure that you must be in active duty to qualify for citizenship after 180 days of service. *I think. It used to be after one day of active duty, and now they're playing games with soldiers.

        Best of luck!

You qualify as soon as you finish basic training. You dont have to be active duty.
