  • ITIN issue. Please help!

So I received a letter in the mail from the irs saying that my passport document is missing information. What the heck? I submitted my passport and marriage certificate through a Tax Assistance Center. I have my returns stamped that it was submitted. What could be wrong? Idk what to submit. I can't submit my passport because I have my interview this week. Is it because my passport and visa has my maiden name? I also submitted my marraige certificate. On the w7 application I hyphenated my marriged name onto my maiden name. Anyone with knowledge on this, your views are appreciated. Thanks

Hey maybe the reason is because you didn?t submit the passport normally if you had done it at an IRS office they wouldn?t require your passport to be sent however if you had done it by yourself then you have to send it. My wife and i ended up In something similar I told her I?ll rather call IRS and let them know id want to make an appointment to apply at the office with out tax returns because i fear my interview will be shortly and so it was I got my interview notice for next month and I have my passport because if not they would?ve still had it it takes anywhere from 4 to 7 weeks to be sent back. But just go to the office and do it there immediately you?ll have your passport back and documents proving you did apply

But that's what I did. I went to an IRS place to have them verify my passport and submit it. I followed the instructions on the IRS website & went to one of their places.

Thats odd. I submitted my ITIN application during our filing of our 2017 tax. Same as you did, i only submitted my passport photocopy and certified by the of tax preparer. I researched for tax preparer that can certify your passport and they will photocopy it. Hope they certified your copy.

My apology of understanding, however that?s a little bit kinda odd I?d certainly call the IRS as we are here talking and let them know what happened and that you got rejected of missing info from passport they could tell you what the issue is. Just approach it calmly and call them. Caused that?s what I did and I?m just waiting to receive it

Thanks for your comments. I called and they said the name on my passport didn't match the name on the w7 and tax returns. These people are so meticulous. I used my maiden name along with my married name hyphenated. I sent the marriage certificate too, yet they're going to act like it's not me on the passport. Smh. Anyways, the agent said to resubmit without my married name. Thanks guys.

BTW, did u use your maiden name on the application? Also, when you went to the interview and had to show ID to enter the building did they ask to see the interview notice? I'm asking because USCIS addressed all the letters they mailed to be by my married name not my maiden name. That's y I walked with my marriage certificate at the biometrics appointment but the officer there told me not to worry about it.

The letter should have a code/reference number. For identity verification, they generally give you the option to call and make an appointment at the nearest office. They can verify your identity in person, and you won't need to deal with mailing your passport.

You?re very much welcome, the call works the good thing is they tell you how to reapproach it and that?s the best thing just do as they say and no hard feelings on it. All will work out in time for you
