  • New to this.....i have a few questions

Hello everyone!! I have been reading the boards, but this is my first post, so please bare with me. I have a few questions.

I am a US citizen who filed for my husband. We filed the I130, I485 and the I765. Please see my timeline below:

    3/21/18 - Packet received
    4/2/18 - Receipt received
4/2/18 - Notice for biometrics at local field office
    4/27/18 - Biometrics completed.

I have registered on the egov.uscis.gov website and regularly check the updates. The only updates for all 3 cases is that they received the form and payment. The website has not updated that the biometrics have been completed.

What is the typical waiting time. I see that some people are very lucky and have obtained their EAD and interview dates already. I know that we just started this process, but it seems like we've been waiting forever. We actually married in December 2016 and had a wedding in May 2017. We just filed our papers this March.

Can anyone help me out on what to expect?

    Hello. Welcome to the forum.
You can check my timeline below to get a clear picture of how the process goes. Every case is different so you might want to create a signature with all the details of Case such as your field office etc.

My 765 and 485 were updated about two weeks after my biometric was taken but I have seen casss that have taken longer to get an update.

Sometimes people don't even receive a notification in regards to their completed biometrics. I posted this as a question back when I was waiting for a notification and the overwhelming response was that most people's case status remained on their initial update i.e. we received your fingerprint fee etc. It all depends on the people on your case, whether they bother to update you.

In my own experience, I didn't receive a notification about my biometrics. Instead, around 3 weeks had passed after completing them and I was updated that an interview had been scheduled for me. Bear in mind that I do not even have my EAD yet, so it's entirely possible I have my GC interview before my EAD arrives, but still waiting on letter confirming my interview date so unsure. I know that EAD process has gone from 3 months to 4-6 months before receiving it now unfortunately.

In general though, you should allow 1-2 weeks for them to process the biometrics, i.e. send them to the FBI and receive a response from them, then update your case for the next step. Chances are, although this is just conjecture based on my experience and what others have said, not to mention the time passed since completing the biometrics, that they are indeed complete and they're waiting to schedule you for an interview. You could call USCIS and ask to speak to a tier 2 officer in regards to this, they may have more information, as they can see your case status first hand, rather than relying on the case officer to update the tracker.

For reference, my timeline is as follows:

I would suggest creating an account here https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov It's very random which site gets updated. If you have an account on both sites, you have a better chance of getting more updates - that does not mean ALL updates.

Since you married 12/2016, you might just get to the interview on or after your second year marriage anniversary. That would put you up for the 10 year green card. How promptly your interview is scheduled depends on your field office.

Yes, the NBC prepares all applications for adjudication by the Field Office. Your file will remain at the NBC until your interview is scheduled. Once that happens, your file is transferred to your field office. In other words, your file will be at the NBC until it reaches the "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" stage. When your status changes to "Interview scheduled", then at that point (+/-), your file is sent to the Field Office. Most cases move at about the same pace. Lately, cases get the "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" pretty quickly. That's all NBC's doing. The field office determines how long you stay at that stage.
