Hey guys we?re really desperate for some help or someone who?s gone through something similar that has some sort of happy ending for us.
We sent my husband?s AOS packet April 7th to the Chicago Lockbox and according to the tracking data it arrived April 9th. April 27th they cashed the check and not too long after we recieved a rejection notice for the i765 because he accidentally signed in the wrong spot and apparently the fee was wrong.
We contacted USCIS about the fee since we filed the correct fee for the i485 and the i765 is supposed to be free if filed together. They told us that the incorrect fee part was probably just a default error message and we should wait for the i485 receipt notice before sending the i765 back so we can include a copy. That was one month ago.
More recently, we contacted USCIS again and was directed to an immigration officer who said he had no record of my husband in the system and kept asking for an alien registration number for some reason. He suggested we email the Chicago Lockbox, which we did. They sent an email back saying we?ll recieve a response in 15 business days. We haven?t recieved a response yet, but we do have five more business days. I?ve also filed a report with the Omsbudsmen, and I also tried to get an infopass appointment but there are none available.
Is there anything else we can do? I?m afraid they lost the packet. It?s so frustrating especially since the most important document, the work permit, is not even processing because we haven?t been able to send it back in.
